Liberation Trail

On Friday night we took the kids to go see the sluis (the canal lock) in Nijmegen.  Unfortunately, there were no boats coming through at the time.  We decided to make the most of it and headed for a walk on a trail across the street.  Little did we know that we were going to be walking on a historic path.  The area that we are living in played an important role at the end of World War II.  Here is a link to read more about the Liberation Route.   We walked along the area that bordered Nijmegen and Weurt.  www.liberationroute.com    It was simply beautiful and breathtaking.   We walked along the water, farm animals were everywhere, the sun was starting to sink, and we found the most adorable little town called Weurt, complete with a perfect little church.  The farm animals were quite interesting. Yes, there were sheep and horses but there were also birds of prey (some crazy looking hawk or eagle that was a pet), ostriches, peacocks, and bunnies galore.  It was a perfect Friday night.
